WATER GELLANTS |
|---|
| INTRODUCTION
Water gellants are used to viscosify fresh water and/or light salt brines for the purpose of creating linear or crosslinked hydraulic fracturing fluids. Selection of the proper gellant is dependent on well conditions (temperature, pressure, etc) and formation characteristics (permeability, porosity, modulus of elasticity, zone thickness, etc). Messina offers a complete line of water gellants for efficient and cost effective hydraulic fracturing of oil and gas wells under all well conditions. |

Powdered, residue-free water gellant for hydraulic fracturing operations. OILAID-WG-1 has been surface treated to inhibit hydration. This allows for excellent batch mixing application by ensuring that fisheyes do not form in the fluid system. OILAID-WG-1 exhibits excellent shear thinning characteristics. It is soluble in cold and warm water, and will viscosify waters ranging from fresh to high- density calcium/zinc bromide brines. OILAID-WG-1 fluid systems can be effectively broken at low temperatures with acids, oxidizers, and enzymes. The combination of easy breakdown and no residue accounts for the good cleanup typical of OILAID-WG-1 treatments. Loadings for OILAID-WG-1 range from 20 to 125 lb per 1000 gal of fluid, depending on viscosity requirements. OILAID-WG-1 also functions as an excellent viscosifier for HCl. Product Data Sheet |
Fast hydrating, residue free gellant for linear frac fluid operations. OILAID-WG-10 is readily soluble in both cold and warm water, making it an excellent product for continuous mixing operations. OILAID- WG-10 exhibits excellent shear thinning characteristics. It is soluble in cold and warm water, and will viscosify waters ranging from fresh to high-density calcium/zinc bromide brines. OILAID-WG-10 fluid systems can be effectively broken at low temperatures with acids, oxidizers, and enzymes. The combination of easy breakdown and no residue accounts for the good cleanup typical of OILAID-WG-10 treatments. Loadings for OILAID-WG-10 range from 20 to 125 lb per 1000 gal of fluid, depending on viscosity requirements. Product Data Sheet |
Powdered, residue-free cellulose water gellant for hydraulic fracturing operations. OILAID-WG-12 may be used in many applications as an alternative gellant to OILAID-WG-1. Like OILAID- WG-1, this product has been surface treated to inhibit hydration. This allows for excellent batch mixing application by ensuring that fisheyes do not form in the fluid system. OILAID-WG-12 exhibits excellent shear thinning characteristics. It is soluble in cold and warm water, and will viscosify waters ranging from fresh to high-density calcium/zinc bromide brines. OILAID-WG-12 fluid systems can be effectively broken at low temperatures with acids, oxidizers, and enzymes. The combination of easy breakdown and no residue accounts for the good cleanup typical of OILAID-WG-1 treatments. Loadings for OILAID-WG-12 range from 20 to 125 lb per 1000 gal of fluid, depending on viscosity requirements. OILAID-WG-12 is not recommended for use as a gellant in acid systems. High molecular weight biopolymer used primarily as a viscosifier for waters ranging from fresh to salt saturated. OILAID-WG-20 fluids exhibit pseudoplastic rheological properties (the viscosity decreases with increasing shear rate and reverts back to original viscosity when shear is removed). In addition, the viscosity of fluids prepared with OILAID-WG-20 remains nearly constant from below frezzing to 300°F, and at a pH range of 2 to 12. OILAID-WG-20 is non-toxic, biodegradable, and is completely stable up to 300°F. Typical loadings range from 0.5 to 1.5 ppb to develop viscosity and gel strength. It is normally added very slowly through a hopper to obtain maximum shear. Product Data Sheet |
Low residue, polysaccharide derivative for linear or crosslinked frac fluids. OILAID-WG-40 has been modified to hydrate at a very rapid rate for use in continuous-mix fracturing operations. In addition, OILAID-WG-40 contains an internal breaker, which ensures complete breakdown at low temperatures. It is effective in applications up to 250°F. When crosslinked with one of Messina's OILAID-WX products, this system produces stable, viscous fluids capable of transporting large concentrations of proppant. OILAID-WG-40 gives rapid hydration and friction reduction over a wide range of mix-water temperatures from 33°F to 100°F. Its low amount of residue minimizes permeability damage. It will viscosify water, acid, water/alcohol mixes, and brines containing KCl, NaCl, or CaCl2. OILAID-WG-40 is compatible with all standard fracturing additives except some clay stabilizers. Concentrations normally range from 20 to 60 lb/1000 gal of make-up water. Because OILAID-WG-40 contains an internal breaker, lab pilot tests of the complete fluid system are recommended at the appropriate temperature to ensure additive compatibility and proper breakdown time. Low residue, polysaccharide derivative for linear or crosslinked frac fluids. OILAID-WG-41 has been modified to hydrate at a much slower rate than conventional polysaccharides for use in batch-mixing fracturing operations. It is effective as a linear frac fluid or may be crosslinked (OILAID-WX products) to form stable, viscoelastic gels at temperatures to above 300°F. Crosslinking yields high gel strengths, providing excellent carrying capacity for proppant transport. OILAID-WG-41 gives friction reduction over a wide range of mix-water temperatures from 33°F to 100°F. Its low amount of residue minimizes permeability damage. It will viscosify water, acid, water/alcohol mixes, and brines containing KCl, NaCl, or CaCl2. OILAID-WG-41 is compatible with all standard fracturing additives with the exclusion of some clay stabilizers. Concentrations normally range from 20 to 60 lb/1000 gal of make-up water. |
Low residue, polysaccharide derivative with an internal breaker for linear or crosslinked frac fluids. OILAID-WG-43 has been modified to allow consistent low temperature viscosity breakdown, which ensures easier cleanout after completion of the job. Product Data Sheet |
Low residue, high-performance polysaccharide derivative for linear or crosslinked frac fluids. OILAID-WG-49 features an integral buffering system that serves to create optimum pH conditions in the mix water to promote rapid wetting and dispersion of the gellant, with hydration retarded sufficiently to avoid lumping and waste of the polymer. It is effective as a linear frac fluid or may be crosslinked (with OILAID-WX products) to form stable, viscoelastic gels at temperatures to above 300°F, thus providing an excellent carrier fluid for proppant transport. OILAID-WG-49 gives good friction reduction properties over a wide temperature and pH range. Its low amount of residue minimizes permeability damage. It will viscosify water, acid, water/alcohol mixes, and brines containing KCl, NaCl, or CaCl2. OILAID-WG-49 is compatible with all standard fracturing additives with the exclusion of some clay stabilizers. Concentrations normally range from 20 to 60 lb/1000 gal of make-up water. |
Fast-hydrating guar gum derivative designed as a gelling agent for linear frac fluids. OILAID-WG-50 can be used in freshwater, brackish water, seawater, and saturated NaCl. It is effective when the well application temperature is 100°F (38°C) to 225°F (107°C). OILAID- WG-50 also acts as an effective friction reducer. Typical concentrations of OILAID-WG-50 are 10-110 lb/1000 gal on mixing water. |
